School of Engineering Curriculum Renewal

You will find, in this site, a set of resources to support the Curriculum Renewal process in the School of Engineering

Update: Additional guidance is now available for School staff here (login required).

Engineers design and construct the future. They work in inter-disciplinary teams to solve complex problems within the ever changing environmental, economic, societal and policy landscape. Our curriculum renewal project will ensure that we empower students and enable our graduates to play an active role in “creating the world that has never been”.

From first year through to final year, our inclusive curriculum will incorporate courses that embed team working, flexible skills development and critical thinking. This will prepare students to make the best use of their knowledge with confidence in their chosen careers. Advanced courses will emphasise the complexities and compromises needed to tackle real world problems, embedding the need for robust research to underpin decision making. Students will also engage with dedicated specialisms that will enable both students and staff to develop their enthusiasm for engineering science and practice.

Our vision for curriculum renewal in our School is that:

  • Our professional engineering graduates will be reflective, lifelong learners equipped for an unknowable future. They will be creative, self-motivated, resilient, and agile engineers;
  • Throughout our multidisciplinary programmes we balance technical depth, experiential learning and industrial interaction; and
  • Our staff will have an appropriate balance of activities, and be supported through the transition, from the current curriculum to the new, with additional resource and professional development.
